Facilitator to strengthen the research-training link, interactions with the socio-economic and cultural world, interdisciplinarity and internationalisation around mechanics and engineering sciences.

The IMI has many missions:

  • Enrich and enhance the appeal of the training offer by strengthening the research-training link. These initiatives focused on master’s and PhD courses are principally carried out in strict collaboration with UFR Sciences (Mechanics, Physics and Chemistry departments) and the Doctoral school ED353 in Engineering sciences within the context of its doctoral programme.
  • Develop and support the development of scientific research in the context of close interactions with the socio-economic and cultural world.
  • Encourage and promote interdisciplinarity and internationalisation to generate new knowledge and to provide more effective solutions to major societal challenges. These initiatives are carried out through different calls for projects both in human resources (post-doc) and in research facility funding.
  • Play a unifying role to strengthen synergies between the 4 laboratories and improve the visibility of the community at national and international level. Through its calls for projects and a scientific event policy organised around these five strategic areas, the institute promotes the emergence of common projects that bring together researchers and teacher-researchers from 4 four units.

Our sites

One of the Institute’s assets is being located at two major regional technology parks at the Château-Gombert site in Marseille and the Arbois site in Aix en Provence. The Château-Gombert technology park is the Aix-Marseille Engineering sciences technology park that houses the institute’s 4 laboratories along with the Centrale Méditérranée (School) and the Polytech. The Arbois technology park, dedicated to the Environment, is home to our Process engineering colleagues.
