The Institute for mechanical engineering (IMI) regularly launches calls for projects in the form of calls for Research projects and calls for HR projects to support interdisciplinary innovation and research. Project initiators receive financial support from the institute along with the facilities/equipment required to bring their projects to fruition. When responding to calls for projects, postdoctoral students, researchers and engineers drive research in the field of mechanics and engineering while responding to the concrete needs of the industry.

The IMI offers the following recurrent support:

RESEARCH

Postdoctoral call for projects

Also known as “Human Resources” calls for projects, these calls for projects aim at recruiting postdoctoral students by funding research projects while fostering research autonomy. Within the context of these calls for projects, inter-laboratory subjects are the main focus and teaching components are encouraged.

Calls for Research projects

Through these calls for projects, the IMI prioritises cross-disciplinary subjects in different disciplines and fosters interactions between teams from different laboratories. Thus, based on calls for projects, exploratory research projects with strong potential are supported.

Supporting initiatives with international focus

With a view to promoting the Institute in France and abroad, the IMI promotes initiatives with an international focus, particularly by extending invitations to international researchers.

TRAINING COURSES

CIFRE theses proposals

Thanks to the Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche (Industrial Agreements for Training through Research), companies have the option to entrust a PhD student with a research mission that will be the subject of their thesis. This initiative aims to develop partnerships between public research laboratories and companies.

International mobility

Students at the IMI are given the opportunity to benefit from an international mobility programme, which enables them to spend time at partner universities, particularly in the context of the CIVIS alliance, as well as in laboratories abroad.

Immersion internships in research laboratories

Master’s students can complete an “immersion” internship at one of our four laboratories (IRPHE, IUSTI, LMA and M2P2) lasting 10 to 14 weeks.

Faisal Ahmad
Post-doctoral fellow IMI-IRPHE

Coming to France as a foreign student to pursue my postdoctoral research at IMI was an enriching experience. Joining the IRPHE laboratory gave me the opportunity to evolve in a dynamic and stimulating environment, in collaboration with researchers. IMI's support, both financial and scientific, played a key role in my progress. The experience not only enabled me to achieve my research goals, but also to develop both culturally and personally.
